Hello, friends, and welcome back to our second Earp-a-palooza-themed EarperView of this week!
A running theme with all of the Earpers I’ve come in contact with is how freaking nice they are. I reached out to the three planners of the con — three people who had zero freaking idea who I was — and was like, “hey, any interest in doing one of these?” and they were all so nice about responding. And Laura here even apologized because hers “went out late” and then asked if she could do anything else. I mean, I seriously feel like anyone who fills these out is doing me a favor, but of course Earpers take me asking a favor and turn it into it sounding like the other way around.
Seriously. Is there a better fandom out there?
Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.
Not sure I have a non-Earper self anymore. Everyone from my friends at work to my sister know my love for the show and all things Earper. I work in the non-profit sector, where I do database admin and project management, and before that I was the database admin and manager over admissions at a university. I love movies and TV, which you see when I start speaking in quotes from my faves. When I’m stuck in Chicago traffic, words like “assholery” and “shit tickets? come out quite often.
How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?
I first saw previews for the show back in early 2016 and kept telling myself to watch it when it premiered. Note to self: write that kind of thing down. I didn’t remember until I saw an ad on the internet and tuned in to episode 3; I caught up and have been hooked ever since. The fandom, though, I didn’t “find” until after I heard season 2 was a go. I signed on to Twitter, and I found my tribe.
Is this your first fandom?
Actually no, I was a huge fan of Xena back a few short years ago. 😉
What is your favorite con memory?
Having only been to one “modern” con, I’d say when I met Danielle Cormack and Claire Stansfield. I was completely dorky but Ephiny was my favorite Amazon on the show, so I give myself a pass. Ted Raimi had to leave really early, but he made sure that everyone that paid for an autograph received one. That’s what I loved about the cast — they would stay there for hours just to make sure the fans were taken care of well.
What is your favorite Wynonna Earp/Earper activity?
Aside from live tweeting with everyone? Hmmm I love the Earper meetups. Looking forward to going to a couple and hoping I can get down to St. Louis! And I am psyched about partying with and finally meeting in person some of my favorite Earpers in Vegas next April!
What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?
Family. The woman that I know as my sister — we’ve been best friends for a while but we both have said that in this life we got to choose our family and we’re part of each other’s. So when Emily and the writers on Wynonna Earp showcase that bond between the sisters, I see my sister and I. I see the same when you watch Mel and Dom together; they’ve become a family. They are sisters. So that bond and knowing someone like that in your life, I understand that. Plus the family I have made with these beautiful, adorable psycho Earpers!
Are there any pictures you’d like to share of your Wynonna Earp experience?
Unless you count a slew of weird food served at a 1970s dinner party, not yet. Check back with me mid-April!
Widow Beth or Widow Mercedes?
Widow Beth!
On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?
What’s a Fandras? 😉
Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.
Is that a mythical creature? (Emily rocks!)
What is your favorite Earp sisters moment?
In episode 1×04, “The Blade,” at the lake where Wynonna knows it’s Waverly who hasn’t forgiven her…and that there’s more to what she’s upset about with Wynonna. The interaction between them is so real and raw, anyone with siblings knows there have been times in their lives like that and it takes you back there.
How have you Earped your life?
How have I not? I talk with my famdom everyday (let’s say famdom because it’s a family more than fans) and definitely feel weird if I don’t. I can’t wait to meet more people at the upcoming conventions. Plus, I jumped in on planning a convention and can’t wait for next October!
What is the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?
That could go in so many different directions, couldn’t it? I think someone else would have to tell me how I’ve been Earpiest.
Doc attends SDCC and purchases three photo ops. What are they and who are they with?
- Playing poker with Michael and Shamier…and Doc’s got the most chips
- Doc and Mel — just Doc and Mel
- Two gunfighters drawing their weapons, Kat and Doc
