#EarperView with @ChancePurgatory

Hello, friends, and welcome to this week’s bonus EarperView! Who better to learn more about than the Earper fandom’s favorite doggo, Chance Purgatory.

Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.

I’m just a happy dog about town who likes to be dressed up and spend time with my owner. But being the unofficial mascot of the Earper fandom has really changed my life. I get recognized on the street now, and people are constantly asking for autographs. Anything for my fans, though.

How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?

Well, seeing as I live at the Purgatory Visitors Bureau, it was kind of unavoidable.

Is this your first fandom?

Are there other fandoms?

What is your favorite fandom memory?

Winning the PCA. The fandom has worked so hard, and it was such an honor to be there with Emily, Melanie, and Tim.

What is your favorite con memory?

Probably re-enacting “The Pose” with Tim.

c1a.jpg

What is your favorite Wynonna Earp/Earper activity?

Cuddles.

What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?

People being there for you whenever you need them. And also a fandom who is ready, willing, and able to create Twitter accounts for anything.

Are there any pictures you’d like to share of your Wynonna Earp experience?

People may not know this, but I actually got the chance to be a featured extra in Wynonna Earp. Here are some of my favorite scenes.

Sweet potato or Yukon Gold potato?

As long as it doesn’t have a pill in it, I don’t have a preference.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?

The number of squares in my buffalo-plaid shirt.

Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.

Woof, woof, woof. Woof-woof-woof WOOF.

What is your favorite Earp sisters moment?

This question is an attack.

How have you Earped your life?

Well, I’ve been asked to be the handler for Bernie at an upcoming con, so I think that speaks for itself.

What’s the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?

Pooped in the Visitors Bureau, truly making it a shit show.

Friends, thank you so much for joining me this week for a fun series of EarperViews. Many thanks to the organizers of Earp Expo (and Chance Purgatory, of course) for participating in such a fun week. I’ll see you all again soon, I hope.

Friends, welcome to our last Very Special Earp Expo EarperView! We close out with Heidi, who is the security director for the con.

Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.

Seriously, at this point, I think Earper has just taken over all of the egos. The Earpin’ don’t stop.

Ideally: Earper 24/7/365

Professionally: Robot Wrangler*

How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?

I hopped on the bus post season 1. I caught wind of the show after watching the ClexaCon 1.0 WayHaught panel on YouTube. A month later, S1 goes to Netflix and the rest is history.

Is this your first fandom?

If I subscribed to one of those DNA testing sites via mail in spit swab, they would find Fangirling in my genes. I’m just doin’ what my mother before me did and her mother before her. This is my first fandom on Twitter and it has been a life-altering, wig-snatching hurricane of amazing that has made my life infinitely better. But I’ll always fondly look back on the Charmed/Buffy/Smallville days when Fandom was message boards and AOL Instant Messenger.

What is your favorite fandom memory?

DragonCon 2017 Full stop. That is when I met all of my faves and we liked each other so much we decided to organize a Con of our own. Expo is gonna be so dope, ya’ll.

What is your favorite con memory?

Breakfast with Evelyn Andrews at ClexaCon 2018. I was hungover, there was no bacon, and I’m pretty sure the chair I was sitting in was trying to kill me. Also, everyone else at the table may have wanted to kill me, too, after I said Mon-El wasn’t THAT bad. I’m not good at reading the room. [ Editor’s note — This EarperView is canceled. ]

What is your favorite Wynonna Earp/Earper activity?

Doing no harm and taking no shit. Live Tweeting new episodes is a close second.

What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?

Wynonna Earp is so much more than a TV show. Three seasons in and it is more like a CULTURE. A culture of inclusivity, acceptance, love, kindness, vagina jokes, creativity… basically a giant list of positivity that I could go on about for days. It’s a place where I get to go to decompress. To be 100% myself. I am the luckiest.

Are there any pictures you’d like to share of your Wynonna Earp experience?

IMG-20180906-WA0001.jpg

I think this pretty much sums it up.

Sweet potato or Yukon Gold potato?

First things first, do I have to lick it?

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?

I fall under the ‘Exclusively Fandras’ section of the Kinsey Scale

Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.

“I don’t blow jobs without a please first.”

That’s 8 words. What can I say? I’m a giver.

What is your favorite Earp sisters moment?

“It looks like ol’ What’s His Name was all about the alternates. You and me kid.”

“Am I your backup?”

“I think we both know I’m yours, Angel.”

How have you Earped your life?

The increase in the amount of tacos, donuts, whiskey, kindness, love, and acceptance in my life since I became an Earper is pretty substantial.

What’s the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?

I think the Earpiest thing I’ve ever done is still yet to be done. It’s a work in progress, but I always carry the Earpin’ spirit with me everywhere.

The People’s Choice Award makes its way onto the Wynonna Earp set. What part in the storyline does it have?

It’s the hilt of Wynonna’s new lightsaber.

Friends, thank you so much for joining me this week for this Very Special Series of EarperViews, and many thanks to the fine folks of Earp Expo for playing along. For more info on the con, you can go to their website and see what they have planned. And don’t tell anyone, but I hear there are even more things to come!

#EarperView with @failwolf1

Our penultimate EarperView is with Danielle, the Media Director for Earp Expo. I will also add on a person note, Danielle is fucking hilarious and smart on the Twitter, so if you’re not following her, you should.

Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.

Idk if I have much of a non-Earper alter ego anymore. I kid, kind of. I live in southern Indiana with my fiancée, Casey. I work for the Louisville Health Department as a Graphic Designer. I spend my free time with my fiancée (playing video games or trying new food places around the city of Louisville). My free time also goes to planning Earp Expo. Next year Casey and I will (hopefully) be purchasing our first house then planning our wedding.

How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?

I stumbled on Wynonna Earp after bingeing Carmilla. There was a compilation of WayHaught scenes from season 1 that was suggested to me. I watched it, then immediately rewatched it a minimum of five more times. Internally I thought, “I have to keep watching this WayHaught storyline, so I better watch the whole show.”

I believe I found the fandom through watching reaction videos. The first reaction video I ever saw was Marcie’s reactions to Wynonna. I think I said hey to her once on Twitter, before she knew who I was. This led me to interacting with more Earpers and the cast.

Is this your first fandom?

Yes, especially the first fandom I’ve been this involved in. The first “TV show” I got into was General Hospital, I would make “fan videos” of Nikolas Cassadine and Emily Quartermaine.  But this is the first one I’ve been fully involved in.

What is your favorite fandom memory?

Definitely winning the PCAs. It’s a huge deal for our little shit show, and it’s even sweeter knowing the award was based off fan votes. Genre television doesn’t get nearly enough recognition and if we can come together and vote for Wynonna Earp to get genre TV on the radar then our mission has just begun. The joy on Kat, Mel, Tim, and Emily’s faces on the red carpet was the real award and better than a million golden shake weights, although a million PCAs would be nice.

What is your favorite con memory?

The first time meeting Emily. Earpers ‘crashed’ a FanGirls shirt meet up at DragonCon. It was pretty much the first time I had met Earpers and she was the first person from the show I had ever met. The moment I walked into the bar, Emily’s eyes locked on to mine. Well, it was either my eyes or my Fandras shirt that caught her attention; to this day I still don’t know. She was so nice as she introduced herself to me (like she needed to, pfft). She asked me how my con was going so far and we chatted for half a second and it was inevitable, we’re best friends now. The say never meet your heroes, they’ll only disappoint you. Well, I say, “FIND HEROINES LIKE EMILY ANDRAS!!”

What is your favorite Wynonna Earp/Earper activity?

Cons will ALWAYS be my favorite Earp activity. It’s comforting knowing you’re in this little bubble of inclusivity, kindness, and acceptance. Meeting new Earpers at conventions are wonderful because sometimes those turn into friendships. Also, it’s the only times through out the year I can see and hang out with my squad.

What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?

Wynonna Earp means kindness. Kindness through Earper Support. Kindness through NoChill. Kindness in charity donations. Kindness in EarperGreet. Kindness through giveaways. As Dom says, kindness breeds kindness.

Are there any pictures you’d like to share of your Wynonna Earp experience?

Sweet potato or Yukon Gold potato?

Roasted Baby Red Potatoes?

Cut in half, drizzled lightly with olive oil, seasoned with a little sea salt, pepper, garlic, and rosemary. Baked in the oven. Mmmm. Maybe top with a little sour cream.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?

If you multiply Idris Elba’s age and Blake Shelton’s age then divide by Total Spice Girls No.1 hits, then subtract the number of PCAs Wynonna Earp has won and add the number of dick jokes in season 3…that’s how much I Fandras.

Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.

Because they’re not mutually exclusive.

What is your favorite Earp sisters moment?

There are a lot of emotional Earp sisters moments, and if I take the time to think through them all, I’ll be here hours later crying into a pint of ice cream. So I’m going to say the scene in 311 where Wynonna is on the back of the truck and shoves Waverly’s head back in the tool box and shuts the lid while Waverly yells ‘Mother F*cker”. It’s an accurate portrayal of how sisters act and is on brand for the show’s comedic tone.

How have you Earped your life?

I think planning an Earp convention is Earping your life pretty hard. There’s a lot that goes into planning a con, so most of my free time is spent on that. My work office is completely Earped out, so I talk about Earp with coworkers any chance I get – I’ve even converted a few Earpers. And I have a TeePublic shop with Earp tees that you can find here.

What’s the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?

I made Dom’s iconic water bottle into a tapestry. I wanted to cosplay her bottle at Earpapalooza, but it didn’t work out quite as planned so I wore the tapestry as a cape instead. Dom’s reaction to it was priceless. She was floored by the fact that someone took the time to recreate all the stickers on her bottle and put it on a tapestry. Here are some photos.

The Waverider lands in Purgatory. What sort of anomaly did they find, and what happens?

The Waverider travels to Purgatory to stop the Abdominal SnowWoman from demolishing the town completely. After Wynonna, Peacemaker tests the Legends (Hey, she has history with people showing up and not being who they say they are), and they pass with flying colors. Their teams work together to fight the anomaly and are almost unsuccessful until Rory brings out his flame thrower and turns the creature into a puddle of water while Wynonna yells, “Take that, you Abdominal Snow Bitch.”

An Hour Later

They all find themselves at Shorty’s because, if there is anything these teams know how to do, it’s drink. Rory and Haught are playing drunken darts, causing a ruckus. Ray is still shocked by the fact that THE Doc Holliday, the greatest gunslinger in history, is alive and sitting in front of him. Waverly and Ava share murder board stories and gab about their amazing girlfriends. Gary and Jeremy, standing with their shirts up, ‘show off’ their nipples (one inverted, one missing) to each other. Meanwhile, Sara and Wynonna stand on the steps of Shorty’s, look on, proud of their team and the hard work they did.

As the Legends board the Waverider to leave, Rory side-eyes Haught, shaking his head. “What was all that about?” Waverly asks putting her arms around her girlfriend.

Nicole gives one last wave to the team before turning in her girlfriend’s arms, placing a small kiss to Waverly’s lips. “Oh, he’s just mad I beat him in darts.” Haught says pulling Waverly back inside Shorty’s, making her way behind the bar. “And we were playing for this,” she exclaimed as she raised a weapon from behind the bar.

Waverly’s eyes grew three sizes as she recognized the device in her girlfriends’ hands. She jumped up and down yelling, “OH. MY. GOD. A FLAME THROWER!”

The End.

HOLY SHIT, THAT WAS AWESOME.

Ahem.

Also, Danielle wanted to include something about Bobo/Beebo, but ran out of time to work it into the story. I loved that so much that I wanted to throw that in.

Anyway, I’ll see you back here tomorrow for the last in this week’s Very Special Earp Expo EarperViews.

#EarperView with @gatorjas

Hello, all, and welcome to day two of the Earp Expo EarperView series! Today we meet Jasmine, the other Co-Director of Operations and Logistics.

Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.

I’m an MBA student and Vendor Account Manager by day! Business is boring, generally, but I love what I do. It also comes in handy when planning a convention of this scale.
I live in SFL with my amazing wife and our two pet-children, Lola and Buns. I’ve been active in the LGBTQI community since I was 25 (I came out a little late in life).  I also run the local chapter of my company’s PRIDE organization. When I’m not spending time with family/friends, working on my career or EXPO needs, I like to travel, I enjoy discovering new local restaurants with my wife (we are foodies!) or having (somewhat) lazy days at home every once in a while.

How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?

I was reading an article about the “best couples on TV moments” on a website. One of the couples that made the list was WAYHAUGHT. I hadn’t heard much about the show at that point but who wouldn’t find themselves intrigued after that WayHaught couch scene? I decided to jump right in and start with S1E1. I had no idea what type of impact the show would have on me (or my soon to be newfound “framily”). My first interaction with the fandom was at DragonCon 2017. A few Earpers created a group chat for those attending, and I was invited to join via Twitter. Having the show and my Earper family is one of the best experiences of my life to-date.

 Is this your first fandom?

I tried to get involved with the Callie/Arizona (Grey’s Anatomy) fandom, but I wasn’t really welcomed like Earpers welcome newcomers . The Grey’s folks are really intense. I guess the answer is yes, lol.

What is your favorite fandom memory?

When I travel to cons, I usually try and select the conventions where I know my closest Earper friends will also attend. We were together (with a few missing members) in Minneapolis for Earpapalooza, and we tend to get loud at random hours of the night. We needed to find a place where we could discuss everything Wynonna Earp, drink a little (or a lot), and maybe play some music. As we randomly walked the hotel looking for somewhere to plant ourselves, we stumbled across this huge open space before reaching the gym area of the hotel. We found a table, chairs, some ottomans….it was pretty perfect! We spent the rest of our con nights at that very spot, laughing and spending time with each other – it’s my best memory so far.

What is your favorite con memory?

It would have to be meeting the cast for the first time at DragonCon. Not only was it my first convention experience, but I was also preparing to meet the cast members of the show that I presently love! I was extremely nervous — a babbling idiot at times, I’m certain. I walked up to Dominique Provost-Chalkley’s table and I mumbled “Hello, nice to meet you”. She is one of the nicest folks you will ever meet at a convention. She said hello in return and took the print from my hand. I completely forgot I was supposed to hand her a post it with my name on it! Dominique sort of looked at me with her Sharpie in hand and slightly confused. I realized she had no freaking idea who I was, and I’m supposed to tell her what I wanted her to write/sign. I mumble (again), “Oh, I suppose I should give you this post it with my name on it huh?” She giggled and said “Oh, you suppose?”. By far my favorite con memory and it was a privilege to be mocked!

What is your favorite Wynonna Earp/Earper activity?

Attending the panels at conventions. The cast is always so genuine and interactive!

What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?

Wynonna Earp, for me, is an outlet to be yourself without caring what others may think of you. We have a show that addresses the complexities of relationships, both straight and queer. We have a show with badass female leads as a focal point. We have a show that isn’t afraid to address mental illness and combat the stigma of mental health. People and families aren’t perfect. Sometimes friends become family. I’m having trouble putting into words the love and light that Wynonna Earp provides to me and so many others. I just hope the cast, show runners and crew know how much we appreciate and applaud their efforts in creating the material we admire.

Are there any pictures you’d like to share of your Wynonna Earp experience?

Sweet potato or Yukon Gold potato?

Sweet potato!

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?

45?

Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.

Jason Momoa told me so?
What is your favorite Earp sisters moment?

“I’m not saying it’s going to be OK. I’m just saying I’m here.”

How have you Earped your life?

I try to Earp it Forward whenever possible, especially through Expo. The best way I’ve Earped my life is by creating a dedicated fan convention with some of my favorite Earpers. This convention is for the fans.

What’s the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?

It’s definitely creating a convention dedicated to Wynonna Earp and my fellow Earpers, with my closest Earper friends.

What real-life revenants do you wish that Wynonna and her crew could fight and defeat?

A certain president of a certain nation would be at the top of the list! The current leaders of the US Environmental Protection Agency are second. Lastly, anyone trying to erase our transgender brothers and sisters also must go.

Thank you so much, Jasmine, for playing along, and I’ll see everyone else here tomorrow for the next EarpExpo EarperView!

#EarperView with @DrQuinzel92

Hello, friends, and happy 2019! And what better way to start off the new Earp year with a new batch of EarperViews?

This week, we’re going to get to know the fine folks who are responsible for the best convention in New Orleans, Earp Expo! And first up is Kristin, the co-director of Operations and Logistics!

Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.

When I’m not Earpin’, I work full-time as an environmental consultant. I love to travel, and I’m so lucky my job allows me to visit many exotic places, such as Albany, New York; Providence, Rhode Island; and Trenton, New Jersey! Another perk of the job (besides driving in Mid-Atlantic/New England traffic) is I often find myself in interesting(?) situations that almost always equate to great stories, including one about a nursery and some unfortunately placed butt plugs. [ Editor’s note — okay, you have my attention. ]

Oh yeah, I’m also working on my M.S. in Biology and will be finishing in May right before Expo!

How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?

I think I stumbled upon Wynonna Earp while I was watching Dark Matter. I kept seeing promos for this new show about some crazy chick with great hair and a big-ass gun. I thought to myself, “That show looks badass. I think I’ll give it a try.” And the rest is history. I’ve been hooked since the moment Kirsten got off the bus. Some may even call me an Earper OG. Seriously, it’s in my email signature.

Is this your first fandom?

Yes, it is! I feel like I hit the fandom lottery, too, because it can’t possibly get better than Earpers!

What is your favorite fandom memory?

Watching Episode 304 in a room full of Earpers at EH Con! Having other people to anxiously shriek at the TV with was awesome.  Also, Emily and all of the writers were sitting behind me, so I got live commentary.

What is your favorite con memory?

Without a doubt, my favorite con memory is Dragon Con 2017. Earp Expo started as a group chat on Twitter for a bunch of Earpers going to Dragon Con.  When we finally met in person, all of us got along so well it was like we’d known each other our entire lives. Being around a group of people that understood my fangirling was the absolute BEST feeling, and I made some of the best friends I’ve ever had.

That weekend we also had the lovely Sharon Belle and Winny Clarke join us for a get-together we planned at restaurant in downtown Atlanta. In between the drinking and mingling, we ended up watching the Season 2 premiere of their web series Swerve with them. It was a pretty cool experience.

There was also an incident with Sharon, a bottle of Knob Creek, and two food trays that I won’t mention. BUT since I’m a firm believer in pics or it didn’t happen, I’ll leave you with this…

1.jpg

What is your favorite Wynonna Earp/Earper activity?

Is drinking an excessive amount of whiskey considered an Earper activity? If not, I’d say going cons. This past year, I’ve been extremely fortunate to be able to travel all around the world doing Earpy things and have met some incredible people along the way. Earpers really are the best of us.

What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?

Family.

Are there any pictures you’d like to share of your Wynonna Earp experience?

Yes! I currently have 2,308 photos on my phone and about 800 are WE related (the remaining 1,508 are pics of my cats and accidental screenshots I’m too lazy to delete). Here are a few…

6.jpg

This is from the fan lunch at SDCC17. It was the first time I met the cast!

I went to Calgary in June and got to tour Bleeding Art Industries. They have some very cool Wynonna Earp props. Definitely check it out if you’re in the area. #Squad

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Sweet potato or Yukon Gold potato?

Yukon Gold 1,000%. Sweet potatoes are like Jolene’s cupcakes. They look delicious, but in reality they’re pure evil. Don’t @ me.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?

Well since Fandras isn’t a thing, 0 (I’m a solid 12.5).

Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.

People’s Choice Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show of 2018

(Runner-up: Bananas and bootcuts and bangs, oh my!)

What is your favorite Earp sisters moment?

This question is so unfair! They’re all GREAT. But if I must choose, I’d probably say in Episode 206 when Wynonna finds out she’s pregnant. I ugly cry EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I hear Waverly say, “I’m not saying it’s gonna be okay. But I’m just saying, I’m here.”

Also, in Episode 202, when Wynonna and Waverly are slo-mo walking out of the demon spidey nursery looking like they’re coming back from the Kid’s Choice Awards from hell. I love a good slo-mo walk.

How have you Earped your life?

The week after I got back from SDCC17, I kind of permanently Earped my life…

What’s the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?

I’m organizing a 3-day party in New Orleans for 500+ of my closest friends. I think that’s pretty Earpy, right?

The Purgatory Scooby gang decides to take a vacation and ends up in NOLA for Mardi Gras. Tell us a little bit about what would happen.

Oh, this is good. I’ve never thought about a scenario like that before…

*proceeds to summarize 100 page script on Wynonna Earp’s Mardi Gras shenanigans*

Waverly, Nicole, Jeremy, and Robin decide to go on a double date at a Jazz club. After a few hours of sipping on Hurricanes and enjoying the live music, Nicole notices Waverly incessantly checking her phone with a look of concern on her face. When Nicole asks what’s wrong, Waverly tells her Wynonna is not returning her calls or texts and she’s afraid she’s going to miss the parade. Hoping to calm her girlfriend’s nerves, Nicole offers to go check on the elder Earp at the Bourbon Street bar they left her at.

When Nicole arrives at the bar, she spots a very intoxicated Wynonna covered in beads and dancing on the bar. As Nicole tries to make her way toward her, some overly friendly ladies block her path and refuse to let her pass until she takes a couple of over-priced body shots. Although Nicole politely and repeatedly declines, the shot girls are aggressively persistent (Seriously, beware of the Bourbon Street shot girls!), so she eventually agrees to drink them so they’ll let her through. When Nicole pulls out her wallet to pay the women, she quickly realizes she doesn’t have any cash and hastily makes her way to the ATM in the back of the bar. When she returns, Wynonna is nowhere to be found. Nicole frantically searches the bar but sees no sign of Wynonna. All of a sudden, Nicole hears yelling and she quickly makes her way outside to see what’s going on.

Wynonna had made her way onto a float of a passing parade and was generously tossing beads at spectators. Nicole makes a beeline for the float and just barely reaches it before the shots finally hit her. She stumbles towards Wynonna and when she finally reaches her, she hears Waverly yell, “Wynonna! Nicole! What are you two doing?! We were supposed to watch the parade, not be part of it!”. Before Nicole can answer, Wynonna whips around and says, “Waves, look! Beads!” and proceeds to toss her, Jeremy, and Robin the beads from around her neck. Finally noticing Nicole, she places beads around Nicole’s neck as she doesn’t want her red-headed comrade to feel left out. As Nicole attempts to drunkenly convince Wynonna to remove herself from the float, they are both pulled off by police officers and promptly arrested.

A panicking Waverly calls Doc for help bailing out Wynonna and Nicole. Doc, who is none too pleased about his outing to the local vampire bar (A REAL thing in New Orleans) being interrupted, begrudgingly agrees to help. Once the gang gets to the police station, Doc proceeds to glamour the officers and gets them to release Wynonna and Nicole from the drunk tank. Thankful for their friend’s resourcefulness, Wynonna and Nicole treat everyone to beignets at Café du Monde and spend the rest the evening enjoying each other’s company in a sugar-induced coma.
I…feel like this could happen at Expo?

Anyway, thank you so much, Kristin! I’ll see you back here tomorrow for another EarperView!
