#EarperView with @njnic23

Earpers, welcome to the last in this week’s superfan EarperViews! Today we wrap up with Nic, who I had the pleasure of meeting at ClexaCon. One of my favorite things about her is that when she likes something, she is 1,407% invested, involved, and into it. She has tweets, she has playlists, she has gifs, she has pics– she has it all. And I’m here for it.

One of my favorite things about Earpers is how much so many of us support each other, and Nic is no exception. My Twitter is filled with her supporting our fellow fangirls, and every time I see that, it makes me smile. Because that’s why I’m here — to be entertaining and supportive…and to be entertained and supported in returned. Nic brings this every day.

Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.

I try not to think about non-Earp things, but since you’ve forced me…I’m a Portfolio Manager at a Higher Ed Learning company by day, and by night/every other moment I am fangirling like my life depends on it. I love dancing, music, and, when I can find time, I’m a bit of a nail art/manicure enthusiast.

How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?

I remember seeing commercials for Wynonna Earp on Syfy and thinking, “Sassy female lead and demons?? I’m in!” It just so happened that people I already followed on Twitter felt the same way, so I was connected to the fandom pretty early on.

Is this your first fandom?

Not even close! Over the last 5 years or so, I’ve become immersed in so many fandoms, it’s hard to count. If I think back, the WWE (then the WWF) was probably the first fandom I was a part of back in the late ’90s, early ’00s. (Spoiler: Stephanie McMahon might also be my root.) I researched fic, recorded shows on VHS, and even took notes in a composition notebook so I wouldn’t forget the storylines! Nothing has come close to Wynonna Earp for me, though.

What is your favorite fandom memory?

Wow. That’s a tough one. It’s also tough to separate fandom memories from just friendship memories because that’s what this fandom is to me. You all are some of my closest friends, and I’m so grateful. If I had to pick, I would say the entirety of DragonCon this year. I wasn’t supposed to go for a variety of reasons, but I have an incredible group of friends who (gently) peer-pressured me once circumstances changed. I have never been more grateful for that nudge. Not only was I able to spend time with Earpers I already knew, but that Earper friendship circle multiplied after that weekend.

What is your favorite con memory?

NYCC 2016 gave me two of my favorite Earp memories. The first one is a bit self-serving. I had just had surgery on my Achilles and was wobbling around NYC on crutches, but I refused to miss our cast’s signing at Barnes & Noble. Mel took one look at me and was so concerned! She wanted to know what happened, so after joking that Valerie Anne pushed me down some stairs (she would NEVER), I told her the truth which was that I tore my Achilles playing kickball. This obviously led to her writing “Fuck kickball!” in my comic. (Still waiting on the kickball scene, Em. Maybe season 3.)

The second one (and she’ll kill me for this) was at the WE panel, and Valerie got up to ask a question. Emily of course shouted her out, and Mel, the angel she is, took a beat and then, recognizing, her said, “Oh!! Valerie Anne!” I loved this not only because VA is such a Good(TM), but it just shows how much this cast cares about their fans and recognizes the talent that exists in this fandom.

What is your favorite Wynonna Earp/Earper activity?

It’s a tie between meet-ups and tweeting. This fandom is so quick and witty and hilarious, and both of those activities exhibit that.

What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?

I promised myself I wouldn’t get emotional about this, but here we go. I have never been a part of something like the Wynonna Earp fandom. Everyone from the fans to the cast to the crew to the media — they get it. This is special. I’m already long-winded, but if I could sum up Wynonna Earp in a few words, they would be: family. kindness. friendship. love.

During my lowest moments, Earpers have been there to lift me up. What other showrunner would see a tweet about anxiety/depression and reply, giving you words of hope? You almost never see that, and I hope the entire cast and crew know how much it means to us.

Are there any pictures you’d like to share of your Wynonna Earp experience?

unnamedIMG-3010unnamed (1)

Earp Manicure, a very innocent and not at all creepy lineup of Andras candles (made by CT Nic and Taylor Burke), and my infamous photo op with Dom.

Editor’s note — I try not to be envious of much, but holy shit, do I wish I had one of those candles. ]

Widow Beth or Widow Mercedes?

Widow Beth. She doesn’t get enough credit!

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?

The limit does not exist.

Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.

She gets it and she cares.

What is your favorite Earp sisters moment?

The relationship between Wynonna and Waverly is one of my favorite things about this show. It’s so complicated, but at the end of the day, they love each other so much and would do anything for each other. One moment that stands out to me is from season 1 when Wynonna is patching up Waverly’s wound and remarks that “dudes dig scars.” Waverly cautiously asks, “do chicks?” and the look on Wynonna’s/Mel’s face. The twitch was almost imperceptible, but to me it showed that Wynonna saw her sister, and it gave Waverly reassurance that who she was, was okay.

How have you Earped your life?

How have I NOT Earped my life is probably the better question. I own and have recently hung some Earp art in my apartment, I’ve done an Earp manicure, created Earp-centric playlists, the backgrounds of my work computers are Earp-related…should I keep going? 🙂

What’s the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?

If this counts, I coordinated a trip up to Massachusetts just to attend the NE Earper meetup even though I live in New Jersey. I’m talking…hitching a ride with a coworker who happened to be going to Boston, renting a car for two days, and using hotel points. (By the way, WORTH IT.)

The Earp manicure takes a close second place though.

The DEO takes on a special case with Black Badge. Describe Nicole’s interaction with Alex, and Jeremy’s with Kara. Is Waverly more jealous because of the hot lady paired with her girlfriend, or the hella-smart lady?

This is rude, for the record. [ Editor’s note — oh, for fuck’s sake, Nic… ](I also needed to read it a few times because the actor who plays Wynn is named Jeremy and my fandom brain was confused. ANYWAY.)

Knowing everything that Alex just went through with Maggie, Nicole would definitely take a beat to see if she’s okay and let her know she’s there to talk before diving right into the details of the case. I’m pretty sure there would be multiple eye-roll moments any time a dude tried to interrupt their sleuthing.

I’m picturing Kara and Jeremy as the comic duo who end up solving the whole thing because no one is taking them seriously the whole time.

If Waves was threatened at all by Alex, I think it would be a combination of her wicked smarts and basically perfect face. But she trusts her girl, ultimately.

Nic…thank you so much for agreeing to be EarperViewed! It means so much to me when people put a lot of thought into their answers, and everyone this week did. I hope you enjoyed superfan EarperView week, and I’ll see you next week for…

CREATORS WEEK.

Whatever that means. 🙂

Hello, friends, and welcome to another superfan EarperView! Today we have superfan Amanda, and to be honest, that’s how I refer to her in real life. She’s a huge fan of our podcast, and has been since day one. Fans like her are why we do our podcast — because there’s a group of people out there who love Wynonna Earp as much as we do. Her support means the world to us at TSiTH, and to me as well.

FUN STORY — I asked Amanda to be a part of this series and then…forgot to e-mail her the questions. Fucking Cathy, man. She’s the worst. Anyway, Amanda is such a Good that she got back to me immediately with her answers so I could keep to my completely arbitrary schedule. Thanks, Amanda! You’re the tits.

Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.

I work in the healthcare field as an analyst. I have been in the healthcare field for over a decade. I also co-host a podcast with Jennifer Earp (@SidsmomJen) and Jennifer Cifuentes (@jennifer9ine)  on the hollow9ine network covering the show Damnation. Continue reading

Hello, friends, and welcome to another week of EarperViews! This week’s theme may be one of my favorites, because it’s what all of us are deep down — fans. But, you know, like, giant ones. And if there’s one thing my tiny gay fangirl heart loves, it’s a fellow fan.

I first met Nic at ClexaCon, and she was one of the first Earpers I talked to who I hadn’t met at FanExpo the previous year. Within five minutes, I learned that she had spent some time near where I grew up because she had family who lived there, and we chatted a bit about the (embarrassingly backwards at times) area that we knew so well.

Nic is the queen of the gifs, and her “good night” ones always make me smile. There’s no one else I would rather discuss the finer points of soap operas with (and I would say argue, but we are usually on the same side). She’s truly one of the nicest, realest people I have had the pleasure of meeting in this fandom, and I am extremely grateful to her for agreeing to be EarperViewed. AND SHE MET GAL GADOT YESTERDAY, AND READING HER TWEETS ABOUT IT WAS MY FAVORITE PART OF THE TWITTER DAY.

Honestly, I could go on for a bit, but that’s not why you’re here, is it?

Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.

Hello, friends, and welcome back to our second Earp-a-palooza-themed EarperView of this week!

A running theme with all of the Earpers I’ve come in contact with is how freaking nice they are. I reached out to the three planners of the con — three people who had zero freaking idea who I was — and was like, “hey, any interest in doing one of these?” and they were all so nice about responding. And Laura here even apologized because hers “went out late” and then asked if she could do anything else. I mean, I seriously feel like anyone who fills these out is doing me a favor, but of course Earpers take me asking a favor and turn it into it sounding like the other way around.

Seriously. Is there a better fandom out there?

Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.

Not sure I have a non-Earper self anymore. Everyone from my friends at work to my sister know my love for the show and all things Earper. I work in the non-profit sector, where I do database admin and project management, and before that I was the database admin and manager over admissions at a university. I love movies and TV, which you see when I start speaking in quotes from my faves. When I’m stuck in Chicago traffic, words like “assholery” and “shit tickets? come out quite often.

How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?

I first saw previews for the show back in early 2016 and kept telling myself to watch it when it premiered. Note to self: write that kind of thing down. I didn’t remember until I saw an ad on the internet and tuned in to episode 3; I caught up and have been hooked ever since. The fandom, though, I didn’t “find” until after I heard season 2 was a go. I signed on to Twitter, and I found my tribe.

Is this your first fandom?

Actually no, I was a huge fan of Xena back a few short years ago. 😉

What is your favorite con memory?

Having only been to one “modern” con, I’d say when I met Danielle Cormack and Claire Stansfield. I was completely dorky but Ephiny was my favorite Amazon on the show, so I give myself a pass. Ted Raimi had to leave really early, but he made sure that everyone that paid for an autograph received one. That’s what I loved about the cast — they would stay there for hours just to make sure the fans were taken care of well.

What is your favorite Wynonna Earp/Earper activity?

Aside from live tweeting with everyone? Hmmm I love the Earper meetups. Looking forward to going to a couple and hoping I can get down to St. Louis! And I am psyched about partying with and finally meeting in person some of my favorite Earpers in Vegas next April!

What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?

Family. The woman that I know as my sister — we’ve been best friends for a while but we both have said that in this life we got to choose our family and we’re part of each other’s. So when Emily and the writers on Wynonna Earp showcase that bond between the sisters, I see my sister and I. I see the same when you watch Mel and Dom together; they’ve become a family. They are sisters. So that bond and knowing someone like that in your life, I understand that. Plus the family I have made with these beautiful, adorable psycho Earpers!

Are there any pictures you’d like to share of your Wynonna Earp experience?

Unless you count a slew of weird food served at a 1970s dinner party, not yet. Check back with me mid-April!

Widow Beth or Widow Mercedes?

Widow Beth!

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?

What’s a Fandras? 😉

Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.

Is that a mythical creature? (Emily rocks!)

What is your favorite Earp sisters moment?

In episode 1×04, “The Blade,” at the lake where Wynonna knows it’s Waverly who hasn’t forgiven her…and that there’s more to what she’s upset about with Wynonna. The interaction between them is so real and raw, anyone with siblings knows there have been times in their lives like that and it takes you back there.

How have you Earped your life?

How have I not? I talk with my famdom everyday (let’s say famdom because it’s a family more than fans) and definitely feel weird if I don’t. I can’t wait to meet more people at the upcoming conventions. Plus, I jumped in on planning a convention and can’t wait for next October!

What is the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?

That could go in so many different directions, couldn’t it? I think someone else would have to tell me how I’ve been Earpiest.

Doc attends SDCC and purchases three photo ops. What are they and who are they with?

  1. Playing poker with Michael and Shamier…and Doc’s got the most chips
  2. Doc and Mel — just Doc and Mel
  3. Two gunfighters drawing their weapons, Kat and Doc

#EarperView with @NonnaWayhaught

Hello, Earpers, and welcome to a new week of EarperViews! This week’s theme? Earp-a-palooza. That’s right — we’ll get to know the three people behind next year’s Earper convention in Minneapolis.

When I first messaged the three founders, Allison was the first to respond, and I’ve had a little more interaction with her since. I was pleased to see she’s a fellow Supergirl and Carmilla fan, so I’m pretty sure we’d get along in real life. I mean, maybe we’d just scream at each other about TV for a few hours, but quite honestly, those are some of my favorite interactions these days.

Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.

I work as a video-content specialist for a video-marketing agency. I mostly spend my time in post-production editing all the content. We do things such as commercials, company training videos, product overviews, product demonstration videos, etc. I live in the southeast, and was raised with every bit of southern grit you could possibly imagine. I also have an almost 2-year old nephew who lives with me, and he’s every bit of my heart.

How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?

Unfortunately, I was a little late to finding it. I saw a lot about the show online while it was on hiatus from season one, so I did some research and got interested. Luckily it was right around the time it came on Netflix, so I binged the entire season in just a matter of days. After watching the show, I got online and basically found the fandom. It’s been all great from there.

Is this your first fandom?

I was pretty actively involved in the Grey’s Anatomy fandom for years, so it’s not my first fandom, but I will say it’s my first time being involved this deeply in a fandom.

What is your favorite fandom memory?

My favorite fandom memory has to be the No Chill experiences I’ve been a part of on Twitter. I’ve never seen that many people rally around a cause and just go all out, no chill. It’s pretty great.

What is your favorite con memory?

So, I went to Dragon Con this past year, and I didn’t decide I was going until Friday morning. I was on Twitter talking to another Earper who lived near me and we were going back and forth about how we wish we would’ve planned to go, and how it would be cool. Then, suddenly, I was booking a hotel room and planning to drive down to Atlanta the next morning. It was very spur of the moment, but the coolest thing was having another Earper who was willing to do the same exact thing. So, we both made the last minute decision to meet in ATL the next day. And the con itself was wonderful, of course.

What is your favorite Wynonna Earp/Earper activity?

I feel like the live tweeting is probably my favorite thing. I love being able to feel like I’m watching the show every Friday night with a whole bunch of virtual Twitter friends.

What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?

I think I’ve come to understand a little more about what it means to have people in your corner who you didn’t necessarily know you’d have. Like, I have so many more friends that I’ve met through the fandom than I ever thought possible and it’s all because of the show. So it’s helped me find my people, my friends.

Are there any pictures you’d like to share of your Wynonna Earp experience?

Sure, this is a photo from Dragon Con with Tim.

FbyLT1m4
Widow Beth or Widow Mercedes?

Hmm, probably Widow Beth because I feel like she was underestimated until the very end and I relate to that. Haha.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?

Oh, probably like 50,000.

Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.

Because Emily Andras is queen.

What is your favorite Earp sisters moment?

Oh! So many! In Episode 2×01, one moment that stands out is when they were all being confronted by Black Badge and then Lucado aims a gun at them and says Wynonna can watch them all die first, and Wynonna’s first instinct is to jump in front of Waverly to protect her. I love that. It just shows how easy it is for her to protect Waverly and how in all situations, that’s her ultimate goal.

How have you Earped your life?

Well, besides throwing it in EVERY single conversation I have with people… At my job, my co-workers and I eat lunch together every day and we’ve been going through different TV shows. So, we’ll pick something to watch each day. And I finally convinced them to let us watch Wynonna Earp. We’re currently on episode 1×03, and I have no intention of stopping.

What’s the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?

I think getting my boss and co-workers to watch Wynonna Earp during work hours is a pretty big accomplishment of mine. Haha.

Purgatory hosts its first ever fan convention. What sort of organization would book its convention in Purgatory, and how do our Purgatorian Scooby gang deal with it?

I think the organization would be something like “Paranormal Fanatics” or some business who has a huge interest in demon activity. And Waverly would be the first one in line for the convention, and Wynonna would probably have to tag along against her will.

#EarperView with @WynonnaFans

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the last in the week’s series of podcast-themed EarperViews. We wrap up the week with @WynonnaFans, AKA Bonnie.

For those of you who don’t know, Bonnie was a huge part of the fan push for season 2. She led the Earpers who came up with amazing #NoChill ideas — contacting and tweeting at Syfy, Twitter power hours, theme weeks, RTing the most creative and funniest tweets from all of the Earpers — the list goes on and on.

Bonnie has always said from the beginning that all Earpers are always welcome, and I think that’s the difference between our fandom and others. No matter who you are, where you are, how you are, or what you do, if you like Wynonna Earp, you are part of the shit show.

Tell us a little about your Non-Earper alter ego.

I always wanted to have a lot of children, and now I am a mom to 5 amazing kids — and, no, that’s not too many. For me, it’s just right! I am originally from New Orleans, but since I turned 18, I have lived in Alabama, California, and Missouri! I used to be a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit nurse until I got pregnant with my fourth child. Then I decided to stay home to raise my kids and reinvent myself. I started freelance writing and now I run a successful writing business from home! When I’m not writing, momming, or Earping, I write songs, play piano and guitar, and go to kickboxing!

How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?

In a lot of ways, it felt like “if you build it….they will come.” I started the Wynonna Fans Twitter account before I had even seen a single episode. I had seen an Emily Andras tweet in the summer of 2015, and I got very interested. I kept watching as they filmed season one, and by the time March 2016 rolled around, I was ready to fall in love with TV again. Something inside of me just KNEW that Wynonna Earp was going to be great. I put my faith in Emily…and she did not disappoint. Just the opposite. This show completely changed my life. I can’t even begin to tell you guys how much. So, I guess you could say I got on the bus very early on — before it even left the station. Hahaha.

Is this your first fandom?

For the most part, yes. I found the Lost Girl fandom right as the series was ending. So, yes, this is my first real fandom going this far down the rabbit hole.

What is your favorite fandom memory?

For me, my favorite fandom memory was, in fact, the three weeks of “No Chill” we did prior to getting a season two. I was so afraid that we weren’t going to get renewed and that this whole amazing, beautiful ride was going to come to an end. So we embarked on a pretty remarkable three weeks of No Chill, and it was amazing. To see everyone get involved and send Syfy their letters and their serenades, and tweet their hearts out was so inspiring. We did a Power Hour one day during the No Chill weeks, and Earpers sent over 24,000 tweets that hour. I had chills and goosebumps because I realized at that moment just how special this fandom really was. We were a force to be reckoned with…and we moved mountains.

What is your favorite con memory?

Hearing those words from Melanie at SDCC that she ate a burrito…and that we “GOT A SEASON TWO” was incredible. To know that all of our hard work paid off and to hear the cast say that they heard us and that we made a difference. I will never forget that moment. In life, it’s easy to walk around feeling invisible — feeling unheard by everyone. And in that moment, to know that our voices were heard and that our voices MATTERED…was an empowering moment that I will never forget.

What is your favorite Wynonna Earp activity?

I love all things Earp, but I absolutely love the Whiskey and Doughnuts hangouts. I love getting to talk about the latest episode with cast members and other Earpers. Seeing various Earpers come on the hangout is a blast, and I love all the endless theories. Whenever the hangouts are done, my face hurts from smiling and laughing so much.

What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?

Light. This last few years have been rough for the world, our country, and humanity in general. Wynonna Earp represents the light in all of that darkness. It is a constant reminder that there is goodness in the world. I see it every day in this fandom.

Are there any pictures you would like to share?

Widow Beth or Widow Mercedes?

Widow Beth — I always love the ones you don’t see coming. We overlooked her quite a bit in the beginning of the season, and in the end she was a force to be reckoned with.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?

What’s a Fandras? Just kidding 😉 Don’t we all Fandras at least a 10? I think that I Fandras just the right amount. I respect the hell out of Emily Andras as a writer, a creator, and as a person. She fights for the things I believe in fighting for and she does so with humor, grace, and kickass bootcut jeans. I will always be on whatever bus she is driving — happy to be along for the ride, passing out snacks, and playing Prince music at full blast.

Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.

‘Cause she’s bringing sexy back.

What is your favorite Earp sisters moment?

“No, Wynonna…you’re the best of us.” That moment broke me…especially as Wynonna was giving up her baby at that moment.

How have you Earped your life?

I’m Wynonna Fans…hahaha. Wynonna Earp IS my life. No but seriously, I wear a Fangirl t-shirt that says Wynonna Earp on it at least four out of seven days a week! So my life is pretty good and Earped. Also, most of my kids know the “Tell that Devil” theme song!

Whats the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?

Probably cosplaying as pregnant Wynonna at Dragon Con in front of Melanie Scrofano. It was a hot Atlanta day, and I cosplayed in pregnant leather gear. So I’m pretty sure that may have been the Earpiest thing I’ve done.

What is Gus’ truck’s backstory?

Maybe I will get around to writing this fanfic one day (hahahaha) but in my mind, the truck was Mama Earp’s truck and it is very good at getting Earps out of trouble. Originally, however, Mama got the truck from Juan Carlo. He posed as a mechanic (like he does) and told her someone had donated the truck. So Mama took it and fixed it up in the barn. But the truck wasn’t an ordinary truck.  I think that the truck is sentient. Think Kit in Knight Rider. It was the truck that drove Wynonna home from the hospital when she was born and the truck that helped find Waverly. Together with Peacemaker, it makes the ultimate Earp weapon. We’ve only scratched the surface of the truck’s greatness.

Thanks so much for playing along, Bonnie! I’ll see you all next week for another set of EarperViews.
