Hello, friends, and welcome to another superfan EarperView! Today we have superfan Amanda, and to be honest, that’s how I refer to her in real life. She’s a huge fan of our podcast, and has been since day one. Fans like her are why we do our podcast — because there’s a group of people out there who love Wynonna Earp as much as we do. Her support means the world to us at TSiTH, and to me as well.
FUN STORY — I asked Amanda to be a part of this series and then…forgot to e-mail her the questions. Fucking Cathy, man. She’s the worst. Anyway, Amanda is such a Good that she got back to me immediately with her answers so I could keep to my completely arbitrary schedule. Thanks, Amanda! You’re the tits.
Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.
I work in the healthcare field as an analyst. I have been in the healthcare field for over a decade. I also co-host a podcast with Jennifer Earp (@SidsmomJen) and Jennifer Cifuentes (@jennifer9ine) on the hollow9ine network covering the show Damnation. How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?
My work wife, Julie, mentioned that it was on Netflix and right up my alley. It took me one night to finish season one. [ Editor’s note — impressive. Most impressive. ] I wasn’t really heavy into Twitter but had an account to follow other shows (i.e. Lost girl, Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones). I was lucky enough to finish the show two days before season two aired. I live-tweeted during the other shows, so I figured this show had to have live-tweeting as well. I followed the show and cast first, and then…the flood gates opened.
Is this your first fandom?
No, I have been a part of other fandoms — just not as heavily involved in the live-tweeting, fan-fiction-reading, convention-going kind of level. Wynonna Earp holds a special place in my heart, which is why I am so down into the rabbit hole with this fandom.
What is your favorite fandom memory?
This year, with help from the DMV Earpers, we threw together a meet-up. We had a burger and beer combo (my two favorite things), baked goods made by @Luna_Crisp, which were AMAZING, and games.
What is your favorite con memory?
This year was my first convention, which is where I heard about DragonCon. I was unable to attend DragonCon but did watch the live stream of the Wynonna Earp panel. Next year, I will be at ClexaCon and Earpapalooza.
What is your favorite Wynonna Earp/Earper activity?
Live-tweeting. I didn’t understand the impact of how important it is to trend or watch the show within 72 hours of airing until this year.
What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?
Wynonna Earp has become part of my soul. I don’t have to be something I am not. I can be free and be me. I have grown into myself more this year with the help of so many Earpers. Words cannot begin to express the impact the show and fandom has had on me.
Are there any pictures you’d like to share of your Wynonna Earp experience?
From our meetup this year. I will have more Wynonna Earp photos next year after the conventions.
Widow Beth or Widow Mercedes?
Widow Beth because only she can smile at you while cutting you down.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?
SUPERFandras.
Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.
Fandras is life.
What is your favorite Earp sisters moment?
Do I have to choose? Obviously. When Wynonna comes back for Waverly. I always root for the asshole, and to see Wynonna come back for her showed me just how much Wynonna loves her baby girl.
How have you Earped your life?
Between inserting lines into conversation, the non-stop tweeting, t-shirt buying, pin hoarding, and fan-fiction reading I do on a daily basis, I would say my life is fully Earped.
What’s the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?
Doing giveaways or earping it forward. I fully believe the world needs more goodness in it.
Dolls and Jeremy start a podcast in Purgatory. What’s it called and what do they discuss?
That’s a hard one. I would have to think it would BBD-related, only because they both worked for BBD. So, maybe Uptight and Undercover. I know that sounds totally cheesy, but it’s something, right? [ Editor’s note — IT’S PERFECT. ] I don’t think Dolls would do much talking. Jeremy has a way of stumbling through conversations and rambling on kind of like I am doing right now. Most of the topics would cover Doc Holliday, Alien Species, and more Doc Holliday because Jeremy cannot get enough of Doc.
