Hello, friends, and welcome back to a new installment of EarperViews! Hiatus is almost over, and the season-three premiere is so close, we can practically lick its potato. And today, I have quite a treat for you. Wonder Woman, lumberjack, Wynonna Earp show runner, and all-around lovely human being Evelyn Andrews Emily Andras is today’s special guest.

#EarperView with @NedleysOffice
A thousand years ago Last year, I got a DM from a random Earper asking about FanExpo. Wynonna Earp was my first fandom, and Office (AKA Jill) was one of my first Earper friends. We both fangirled over the show, the actors, and over our personal favorite, showrunner Evelyn Andrews. We met in person waiting in line to meet the cast and Evelyn, and then, on zero sleep, she got back in her car and drove to Rochester. I had offered to let her sleep on the couch of our AirBNB in Toronto after she assured me that she was not a lesbian serial killer — neither a lesbian who killed people, nor a person who killed lesbians — but she insisted on driving through.
A friendship was formed that day that I will always treasure. She asked if she could steal my Fandras picture to create a Fandras inception, and I obviously said yes. Tim Rozon snapped this picture, and it’s one of my favorites.
Interestingly, people then confused the two of us, thinking Nedley’s Office and old Lesbiyinzer here were the same person, and that is not true. We are two separate people. However, as I found at ClexaCon, I would be lucky to be confused with Jill, who is the very essence of an Earper and a true representative of the best of our fandom. I am thrilled to have met her and honored to call her a friend.
Tell us a little bit about your non-Earper alter ego.
I’m an aerodynamics engineer by education, a software technical project manager by trade. I love distance bicycling (my longest ride is 150 miles in a day and have my eye on doing 200 miles in a day next summer or the one after). Raised in Ann Arbor, I’m a Michigan Wolverine through and through but now live in NYC – I moved here intending to stay just one year to experience city life. That was 11 years ago. I go on at least one one-week vacation with my mom & dad every year because they are two of my best friends as well as my parents. Obviously, another significant personality trait of mine is that I love to fangirl.
How did you find Wynonna Earp and the fandom?
A friend of mine after Ep1 aired messaged me and said, “Jiiiiiiiilllllll!!! Wynonna Earp. That is all.” (I think that was the exact quote.) After Ep2, she said, “JIIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! WYNONNA EARP!!!! TRUST ME!” I had recorded Ep2 but hadn’t watched it so I watched it and was all, “Oh, hello.” Then went back and watched Ep1 and was hooked. It wasn’t until Ep9 that I decided to jump into the Inanimate Object twitter handle mayhem and then the rest, as they say, is history.
Is this your first fandom?
Awww, part of me wishes it was, but part of me is happy it’s actually not. Star Trek was my first fandom (as in the original series, though I was not alive when it aired, I loved it and yes, I’m a Trekkie). The X-Files was my second fandom; I cut my teeth in that fandom at the same time the internet was being born. Yes, I know that’s dating myself. BTW, I was totally a noromo, don’t flame me.
What is your favorite fandom memory?
I have two. My friends and I took a trip to Vancouver to seek out and take the geekiest of geeky pictures with X-Files locations. During that trip one of my buds and I arranged to meet with William B. Davis (aka the Cigarette Smoking Man in X-Files). To our surprise, during that meeting he asked us out to lunch! That lunch was just…. beyond expectations.
On par was meeting the Wynonna Earp cast at FanExpo 2016. The actual Con experience wasn’t the best… but meeting these genuine human beings who shared the pure joy that is Wynonna Earp outside and in the shadow of the Space Needle after driving 8 hours starting at 3:00 am…talk about beyond expectations. I will forever remember that day. I will forever remember walking back to my rental car of an 8-hour drive back to NYC thinking, “I’d do this again in a second.”
What is your favorite con memory?
Okay, so the above FanExpo 2016 was my first real con and as such, that memory is my fave. Second favorite is the two #FandrasInceptions I’ve been an honor to be a part of. Oh, and I did get a hug from Kat Barrell at ClexaCon and how can I not mention that?!?
What is your favorite Wynonna Earp/Earper activity?
This might come as a surprise to a lot of people, but I enjoy writing fake small-demon-infested-town police blotters and fictional goings on in the sheriff’s office. I have always had a strange adoration with small town police blotters (probably because my mom was born in a tiny town in the thumb of Michigan [and kudos if you know what ‘the thumb of Michigan’ means]) and this just kinda fed right into that.
What has Wynonna Earp come to mean to you?
It’s just pure fun as well as a “come as you are and make no apologies for that.” It makes me smile. It makes me feel giddy. It makes me feel free. There is not enough of that in the world today.
Favorite Earp sisters moment?
This question is cruel as there are so many!! I guess mine is not when they’re together but it’s when Wynonna says, “Peacemaker is just a gun; Waverly is Waverly!!!” It just threw in your face what family meant to Wynonna, and that just cut me to the quick.
Are there any pictures you’d like to share of your Wynonna Earp experience?
I don’t think it could be anything other than this, a screen grab from a behind the scenes clip taken at ClexaCon, me with two kickass women, all smiles, celebrating just how much this show means to us and being celebrated by the show as to how much we mean to them.
Dolls or Doc?
Doc. (Which is so strange because I am the kind of person that pretty much ALWAYS chooses the law man/woman!!!)
How have you Earped your life?
How have I not!? But seriously, the best thing I feel like I’ve done is brought the joy of just having fun into the lives of people around me. I’ve taken #WynonnaTravels where I go and just unabashedly taken pictures because IT’S FUN AND I DON’T CARE WHAT YOU THINK! I’ve given away t-shirts to people and tried to #EarpItForward whenever I can.
What’s the Earpiest thing you’ve ever done?
Mentioned Wynonna Earp in a résumé and then submitted that résumé for a job. No, really, I did that.
How are you most like Randy Nedley?
Hmm. I don’t shave as often as I ought to. Also… I think I’m kind of a decent person. And I think he is, too.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you Fandras?
I’m an 8, but rotated 90 degrees (that’s an infinity symbol, btw).
Describe why Fandras is a thing in 7 words or less.
Because it is, duh!
Many thanks to Jill for participating! And we’ll see you next time with an EarperView with another one of my favorite Earpers.
Time, Time, Time, See What’s Become of Me
So I’ve blogged two days in a row (!) and it feels weird not to do it today. But I have to get ready for work 15 minutes ago, so nothing substantial is coming out of this brain. And I really thought I’d catch up on a lot of this while my wife was out of town, but I feel like I had even less free time than when she’s here! Hopefully in the next few weeks, here are the things you have to look forward to.
- More in my new favorite blog installment, Monica’s Unnecessarily Long and Detailed TV Recaps (just for Wynonna Earp and not Orphan Black, evil friend who keeps telling me to write about OB)
- More updates on the #TravelingFandras movement (and when I buy my new shirt, because that’s definitely gonna have to happen. Maybe I can crowd-fund it!)
- My inability to choose normal blog titles (but Susanna Hoffs, am I right?)
- Finally finishing blogging about my wedding in 2015 (sorry, honey)
- Finally writing about ClexaCon and this amazing, epic photo op
- Also this one
- And this one, which is in some ways the most important one
Hope to see you soon, friends.
Traveling Fandras
What happens when you are talking via Twitter DM with someone you met one time at a con and she expresses sadness that she wasn’t able to get a Fandras shirt before traveling overseas? You overnight your Fandras shirt to her, of course, because that makes an excellent story.
Pictured — Emily Andras so angry with me, she will exact her revenge several months later by blocking me on Twitter for 36 hours. “Accidentally.”
After a quick trip to the post office the next day, Heather (@RealSmarticus) has my blessed “original” Fandras shirt the day of the premiere and is ready to make stuff happen. I, of course, am going through Fandras withdrawal, but this Earper will push on.
First, I got proof of life shipping success.
THANK YOU, USPS.

Wynonna Earp 2×01, AKA The One with the Valkyrie in Her Underwear
So, despite my nonexistent track record with recaps, I’m attempting to write about each episode of Wynonna Earp for this here blog. They’ll be unnecessarily detailed, chock-full of random pop-culture references, and replete with screenshots and snark. They’ll take me way too long to write, and I have no idea if anyone will find them entertaining but me. But I like them, so I’m writing them. Hope you enjoy!
Welcome to the first post in my new series, Monica’s Unnecessarily Long and Detailed TV Recaps! My promise to you by the end of the season is that they will get better.
Previously on Wynonna Earp, Emily Andras blew our minds, Melanie Scrofano made all of the faces and gave us all of the feels, Tim Rozon and Shamier Anderson made all of the queer ladies question their sexuality, and Kat Barrell and Dominique Provost-Chalkley made us realize that we do, in fact, like the ladies and created a couple that made us willing to trust a show again in the process.
WE is back with a vengeance, and yours truly was lucky enough to finagle an early shift to watch it and live-tweet its premiere. I’ve made the questionable decision to recap/review/shout about each episode after it airs. Grab your whiskey, procure your doughnut, and make a salt circle for protection, Earpers, because here we go.
Many thanks to the writers for only making us wait about 3.7 seconds to realize Waverly didn’t shoot Doc or her remaining sister. I mean, we’d all seen the season’s footage and an educated guess would tell you that you couldn’t shoot Doc freaking Holliday and then do a sexy cheerleader dance (complete with sexy-yet-dorky finger guns) for your GIRLFRIEND, but still, good to know it was a Random Creature and not Sweet Baby Waves taking a page from either of her sister’s books and turning the gun on her family.
Waves and Doc run, Wynonna shows up and saves the day, then uses Peacemaker to dispatch Random Creature.
“Isn’t he gonna go poof?” “Mm, I guess these guys don’t.”
Wynonna Earp on Netflix
So, I’m sitting on my couch, trying to write about ClexaCon, and part of the problem is that I watched S1E1 of Wynonna Earp on Netflix this morning, and I’m pretty jazzed.
Yes, that’s right. The show I’ve been screaming about for months is on Netflix.
If you haven’t watched it, go do it. Now. Go watch it. It’s amazing and awesome.
Now, I realize not everyone will get the same feelings I did after watching. Maybe you can turn on the TV and see yourself represented no matter what show you choose. Maybe you don’t care about great writing, strong female characters, and queer representation. Maybe you think Val Kilmer is the best Doc Holliday and won’t allow your mind to be changed. Maybe you hate happiness. I don’t know your life!
But if none of those things apply, check it out. I allowed myself to watch the pilot this morning (I have stuff to do so I couldn’t sit down and watch the entire series EVEN THOUGH I WANTED TO), and here are some reasons you should watch, based solely on the pilot.
Fan Expo 2016
Guys. I have all of the feelings about all of the things.
I had casually mentioned to Chris that it might be fun to go to Fan Expo on Labor Day weekend. Mark Hamill would be there, Gillian Anderson, and, you know, an entire convention of cool nerdy stuff that we liked. A few weeks ago, though, it was announced that the Wynonna Earp cast would be doing a panel and autograph signing/photo op. My attitude quickly changed from “we probably shouldn’t spend the money” to “CAN WE PLEASE GO, HONEY?!” As anyone who has read this blog before knows, I have the greatest wife, and she agreed. Hotels were ridiculous, so she found us a cute Airbnb that ended up being about a $10 Canadian Uber ride from downtown.
I made some new friends on Twitter and was looking forward to meeting them in person, because if it’s one thing I excel at, it’s being friends with people I’ve never actually met.
That probably tells you something about my personality.
We left work early on Friday, and spent what felt like 17 hours driving there, but it was only 8. It should have been about five, but, you know, whatever. Holiday traffic. Also, Ruby Tuesday salad bar!
We settled in, had a glass of wine — well, like 1/4 glass because I’m a lightweight — and went to sleep. In true Monica form, I woke up 15 minutes before my alarm went off — 6:45am — because I was excited! We got ready, I realized I had the location wrong in my head — so many thanks to Chris for saving us at the last minute on that one — Uber’d downtown, grabbed breakfast, and headed to the convention center.
Yeah!
